away while Hannah fed him another


       piece of apple I had left with her, and

       he continued nuzzling her for more.


               “What is it with him?” Hannah

       asked.  “I’ve never seen a horse act


       like this.”

               “I’m not sure,” I replied.  “With


       the men he reared and snorted and all

       sorts of things.  With you, it is more


       of anxiousness, like he was calling

       you, wanting you near, upset when


       you would leave.  It was kind of like


       that when he saw me.  It’s like he felt

       we are good and those men are not.”


               Hannah continued to stroke his

       nose.  “He’s so big and beautiful.”


               “You ought to see him run,” I said

       as I joined her again.


               “I’d like to.”

               I pushed him.  “Go.  Go run,
