“No,” I said. “It’s not that he’s
unpredictable, but there seems to be
something about who he trusts and
what he wants. Come closer and see
what he does.”
Hannah slowly came out from
behind the pickup, and Cashmere
calmed down. His whinnies grew
softer. He leaned out far across the
fence, as if trying to reach to her. She
paused a few feet away, and he
started whinnying anxiously, as if
begging. Still holding Kaylynn in
one arm, I went to Hannah and put
my arm around her. “Come on. It
will be okay. Walk with me.”
