quite a while, happily chewing every


       piece.  Without us saying anything,

       he turned and ran around the pasture


       again.  When he got back, he reached

       out his nose expectantly.


               “Sorry, Boy,” I said.  “I don’t

       have any more apples.”  He seemed


       disappointed, but appeared to

       understand.


               As we continued to pet him,

       Hannah suddenly noticed his front


       knees.  “What happened to his legs?”


               I shrugged.  “I’m not sure.  It

       looks like some kind of injury that


       didn’t heal correctly.  Maybe Brenda

       can tell us more when she comes.”


               We petted him a little bit longer,

       and then decided to head to the zoo.


       As we left, he grew anxious, and

       whinnied and whinnied.  As we drove
