“Speaking of Brenda, I had better call

her and tell her how it all went.”

I called the number she had left,

and after it rang quite a few times, the

pleasant voice of a lady came on the

line. “Hollywood Marriot. This is

Marianne speaking. How may I help

you?”

I told her that I had called the

number Brenda had given to me, but

it rang through to her.

“She must be out presently,”

Marianne said. “Would you like me

to leave her a message?”

“Yes. Please tell her that Tom

Johnson called.”

She said she would, and I hung
