she replied.
Marie agreed.
The funeral was a wonderful tribute to the
great lives of Rachel’s parents. Everyone who
knew them loved them — everyone except
Matthew. He knew they didn’t feel he treated
their daughter well, even though Rachel had told
them very little about the abuse. They just knew.
Rachel’s mind kept wandering off during
the service. Jacob had sent flowers. Where was
he? Was he married? What was he doing? It
had been almost 14 years. What had happened to
him? How did he find out about the funeral?
She hardly dared ask her brothers and sisters if
they knew anything for fear Matthew would find
out. Marie checked for her, but found no
information.
