breath away. It said, “For all the love you gave
me, and for being like parents to me as a boy. I
send my love. Jacob Davis.”

      “Jacob!” she gasped.
      Matthew immediately turned. “What did
you say?”
      Marie slipped the card into her pocket. “She
said Janob. It is a new type of All American
rose. Isn’t it beautiful?”
      Matthew was suspicious, and Rachel saw
him looking for a card, but when he didn’t find
one, he let it go. Marie later whispered to her,
pointing at the rose, “I think you should take that
one home and plant it.”
      Rachel thanked her. “But maybe you could
keep it for me until Matthew forgets about it,”
