When Matthew came to her parents’ funeral,
all of his conversation centered around whether
there was any inheritance. Rachel’s brothers and
sisters either totally despised Matthew or were
afraid of him. He was so controlling that he
would hardly let her talk to them. She had
Mother Davis, and John, and David, but there
was still an empty spot in her heart. She couldn’t
help but think of Jacob. He had loved her
parents, and they had loved him.
She harbored a glimmer of hope that he
would come, but he didn’t. But there was
something. Her sister, Marie, brought it to her
attention. She quietly moved Rachel away from
Matthew and pointed out a beautiful rose plant
that was in full bloom. It was the most beautiful
