beside me inside the fence until he
came to the edge of the pasture. Even
with my window closed I could hear
him calling to me as I continued on
my way.
As I drove along, I suddenly
thought of Hannah. She was so
anxious when I left. I thought I had
better give her a call. I pulled into a
gas station. I searched my wallet and
the pickup and finally found a dime.
I went to the phone booth and dialed
my home number.
“Hello?” Hannah answered.
“Hello, Hon,” I said.
“Are you all right?” she blurted
into the phone.
“Oh, yes. I’m fine. In fact, that is
why I am calling. I thought you
might be concerned.”
