excited, not as if he would jump. He
had finished the apple, but still he
didn’t move.
My heart was racing faster than I
could ever remember it doing before.
It was about to pound its way up my
throat. But I knew I had to take a
chance. I just had to. I didn’t know
why, but I did.
I took a huge breath and jumped.
I barely had time to grab his mane,
and he was off. I wasn’t on straight,
but I was able to pull myself
completely on by the time I saw us
approaching the fence on the far side
of the pasture.
He was heading straight for it,
and I could swear he didn’t plan to
slow down at all. I had seen him run
this before, and knew he turned as if
