This side was the longest, as the
pasture was not quite square, so I
urged him on. “Go, Cashmere, go!”
He didn’t need my urging. He
leaped forward even faster, stretching
his legs out further and further. His
head bobbed in time with his legs. I
felt like we were in a race, not a race
against other horses, but instead it felt
like a race against everything
earthbound. It felt like we were
soaring, free from anything that held
us down. It was just Cashmere and
me under a clear blue sky in a wide
open space.
As we approached the next turn, I
once more prepared for it by locking
myself to him. As we made the turn,
I saw something I didn’t expect. A
car full of people had stopped on the
