around that pasture, I felt an urge to
be on his back, to feel the wind in my
hair, and to be moving with him.
That desire had built in me to the
point it was almost uncontrollable. I
didn’t even really understand it. But,
somehow, I just had to ride him.
I finished the last section of fence
and walked over to the gate. He
followed me, as I was sure he would.
I set my tools outside the fence, and
then I climbed up on a post. I broke
the apple into two pieces and held
one out for him.
At first he came straight toward
me. I knew I couldn’t jump on his
head. I moved my arm to the side,
and he followed it. He was still a
distance away, so I put the apple
piece in my other hand and held it out
