bucket hit the ground, it bounced a
couple of times, spilling staples
everywhere.
It wasn’t as bad as it could have
been, but still I had to dig through dirt
and grass to retrieve as many as
possible. I didn’t want them getting
into the horses’ hooves. I was still
hard at it when Cashmere finished his
run and came sauntering up, acting
like he should have an apple.
He whinnied to me. “Oh, right,” I
said. “You think I’m going to give
you an apple when you spilled all of
my staples?”
Cashmere hung his head briefly,
then looked up at me and whinnied.
“Oh, no, you’re not forgiven that
quickly. You’ve been a naughty,
naughty horse.”
