Davis explained, “he sent a letter to Camilla,
asking that she not contact our family, or let any
of us know he had written. He asked her how his
father was. When she wrote back and told him
that his father had passed away, Jacob was
heartbroken. He said he didn’t blame his father
for what he had done, because he knew he didn’t
really know what he was doing.
“His grief caused him to want to contact me,
and Camilla agreed to be a go-between. One
day, Camilla invited me over to visit. You can
imagine the shock I had when Camilla gave me a
letter from Jacob. In it he told me he would
continue to write and send letters through
Camilla, but he said that if I ever told anyone
else about him, especially Matthew or you, he
would never write again.”
