connection with Sherry’s, David
was suddenly wide awake and
turned to stare at me. “She asked
you? Why did she ask you? You
haven’t asked her out like most of
us have. You’ve never even asked
her to dance at any of the dances.
And you seldom go to the dances.”
“Maybe she thought he needed
it most,” Bryce said.
By this time, a few more of my
roommates were up, and everyone
seemed to think that Sherry’s visit
with me was a great topic of
conversation. I was happy to
