I decided I would just sit in the

same seat the next day.

After Professor Hastings

finished with all the preliminaries,

he lectured about the material for

the first assignment. I hadn’t

gotten a chance to do any math

review in preparation, but luckily,

the material we covered was

familiar. He finished the class by

giving us our first homework—a

review of first-semester calculus

that was to be completed by the

next day. When class ended, I

headed to the student center for the

dance class, my heart pounding

faster with each step.

True to her word, Sherry was

waiting outside the east ballroom.
