I didn’t know what Cashmere would
do, but I knew all I could do was
prepare and hold on.
As we approached the gate,
Cashmere finally slowed to a trot,
gasping for air, the people watching
started to clap. As he pulled up to a
stop, my fears came true as some of
the people approached the fence.
Cashmere reared and squealed at
them.
I hung on for my life, calling to
him to calm him. “Down, Cashmere!
It’s okay.”
He reared three times as the
people dashed back behind their cars.
Each time he rose, I could feel myself
slipping a little more. I knew I didn’t
want to slide off the very back, or I
