“First,” the Sheriff said, “he does own the

place. You sold your ranch, and he bought it,
and your mother sold the house, and he bought it.
He wasn’t sure if you would be causing
problems, so he asked me to come out with him.
He asked me to wait in my truck, unless there
appeared to be a problem. And, apparently, there
is.”

“I sold the ranch to some multimillionaire
senator,” Matthew screamed, “not to my stupid
little brother!”

The sheriff seemed to be losing patience.
“Your brother is that multimillionaire senator.”
He turned back to Jacob. “Senator, would you
like me to make an arrest here?”

Jacob spoke as calmly as if he was visiting
