She was right about Matthew not being
deterred. It wasn’t long and he was back. She
saw him pull into the yard, and she told her
children to lock the door and stay in the house,
and she went out to confront him. He was more
threatening than ever, but she knew she needed
the money for her children, for Mother Davis,
and to finish paying hospital bills. At that point,
she didn’t know that Mother Davis had already
given him most of what was left. If Rachel had
known, she would have been even angrier.
That was when it happened. She told him to
get off of their property, and he retorted that it
obviously wasn’t hers, or even Mother Davis’s
for that matter, because he knew it had been sold.
She said as long as the new owner allowed them
