Mother Davis would not divulge his identity and
simply said, “He is the same man who bought the
farm.”
Rachel couldn’t understand why Mother
Davis trusted the man and tried to dissuade her,
but her mind could not be changed.
The sale took place, and Rachel was sure
someone would come and tell them they had to
move, but that never happened. And when
Mother Davis told her how much they received
from the sale, Rachel had been shocked.
They put the money into an account from
which Rachel paid all of the bills. She could see
the money going fast and tried to be careful. She
did buy the children a few new clothes, but not
many. They grew so fast that clothes didn’t last
