I asked my dad why someone would kill Mr. King
if he was trying to correct wrong things. Dad said that
some people didn’t like him, and that was why they
would do an evil thing like that. I still couldn’t
understand. It just didn’t make sense.

But then, just a few weeks before Dad and Daniel
had their argument, another horrible thing happened.
The television newsman said that someone had shot
Senator Robert Kennedy. They had pictures on the
news about it. My dad cussed and said some words he
almost never said except at cows.

He had often said it would be a tragedy if Senator
Kennedy was elected President, so I was even more
confused. When I asked him about it, he took me on
his lap.

“Son, I don’t always agree with certain men and
their political views, but this country is a democracy.
Each man has one vote, and it is the will of the people
that should dictate who governs. No man has the right
