I called back, and Albert and Daniel came running. Albert was first to reach me, and he acted real important. “Look who I found,” he bragged to Daniel. They pulled me and my little red wagon back to the house, spilling out most of the flowers as we went. Mom was almost frantic. “Where the devil have you been? We have the whole neighborhood out hunting for you!” I don’t know why she was so worried. I knew where I was the whole time. All she had to do was ask. Once I was back the house, I became bored again. I would usually spend my free time with Tippy and Nosey. But sometimes I want something else to do. With our radio broken, we had nothing to listen to. We had an old TV that an uncle gave us, but it only worked off and on - mostly off. We had a telephone, but since we lived far out in the country, we had what everyone called a party line. I think that is a real strange thing to call it, because I can’t see how anyone can use it to party. I asked my mom about it, and she said a party line meant that several people shared the same phone line. “It is only for very important things, and you must never, never touch it,” she warned me. “Especially when it isn’t our ring.” I understood some about the rings. There were times when it would ring and someone would say, “That isn’t our ring. Just leave it alone.” And
