would giggle as their lips tickled her

palm.

But I couldn’t have her with me if

I was going to be working with a

dangerous horse. I scooped her up

into my arms. “I’m afraid Daddy

needs to go alone today.”

“But me want see Jackie and

Patches.”

“I’m not going to see Jackie and

Patches,” I said. “I’m going to take

care of another horse.”

She kept begging until I firmly

told her no. As I prepared to leave,

Hannah expressed her concern again.

I promised to avoid taking chances. I

kissed her goodbye. “Don’t worry.

I’ll be fine.”
