She was just ready to leave when
she stopped. “Tom, you’re bleeding!
Are you all right?”
That was the first time I realized
there was blood rolling down the side
of my face. I just shrugged. “It must
have been from his hooves or the
fence or something when he hit me.
But it doesn’t feel like it is anything
serious.”
It took a while to convince her of
that, but eventually she headed to the
hospital, once more stubbornly
refusing my offer to drive her. As her
pickup left the yard, Cyrus turned to
me. “That is one strong-willed
woman.”
“Yeah,” I replied. “But she is a
good lady.”
