“And you are just as stubborn,”
he said. “You ought to get yourself
home before you bleed all over the
place.”
“I need to finish feeding first,” I
replied.
Cyrus just shook his head as I tore
a piece of my shirt to try to stop the
bleeding. I soaked it in cold water
under the hydrant and held it to my
forehead. Each time I thought the
bleeding had stopped, I pulled the
cloth away, and it started again.
Finally I gave up and hurried with the
chores and headed home.
By the time I arrived at our
apartment, the blood had dripped
down my face and onto my shirt.
Hannah just gasped when she saw
me. I assured her I was okay, but she
