“None of that book learning for me.
Couldn’t stand to be locked up inside
a classroom for hours on end.”
I smiled and told him I
understood because I, too, had
worked as a mechanic for a couple of
years. But I liked both the learning
and working with my hands.
When I finished what chores
absolutely had to be done, I decided I
would have to leave any extras for
another day. My shoulder was
throbbing, and I wanted to get home
and put some ice on it. Cyrus thought
I should have it checked, and when he
reached out to shake my hand, and I
grimaced when I lifted my arm, he
just shook his head. “You don’t want
no permanent problems with that.”
