started coming toward us again, I
called to them. “Please stay back.
He doesn’t like strangers.”
Cashmere nuzzled me, and I
remembered I still had half of an
apple. I pulled it out and held it for
him. “That was awesome, Buddy.
But I’m not sure I should ever do that
again.”
As I slipped out to get my brush,
he whinnied his concern about me
leaving. Some of the people climbed
back in their cars and left, but the
others surrounded me, and that really
seemed to frighten Cashmere. He
seemed afraid they’d hurt me, and he
started rearing and squealing. I called
to him, and he eventually calmed
down.
As I was grabbing the brush, one
