didn’t invite you?” He was quiet for another
moment, then continued. “Rachel, forgive me.
We would love to have Mother, your children,
and you, come for Christmas.”
Rachel felt scared. She was afraid to meet
Anna, and she would be there knowing Jacob
didn’t want her there. “Are you sure?”
He smiled weakly trying to hide his true
emotions. “Anna would never forgive me if you
didn’t come.”
Rachel was still unsure about going, but she
wanted Mother Davis to go, and she wanted her
children to meet their cousins. As frightened as
she was, she would go for them. Then Rachel
thought of all of the presents under Jacob’s tree
compared with her own and suddenly realized
