you — especially Emily. How do you think they
feel when they see the way you act toward their
mother?”
“I wouldn’t mind having the children come.
But when I am around her the painful memories
come back. I don’t see why I should be expected
to have my Christmas ruined.”
“And I suppose Anna feels the same way?”
Jacob’s took a deep breath, and his voice
was suddenly subdued. “No. Anna is excited to
meet everyone, and strangely, it seems, Rachel
most of all.”
“Then why don’t you let her?”
Jacob didn’t even answer. From her place
in the kitchen, Rachel could see him, instead,
