shook his head up and down, but he
didn’t rear or squeal. Finally, we got
up to the fence, and I suggested
Brenda give him the piece of apple.
Brenda had been around horses a
lot, and yet she still trembled the
slightest bit as she held it out due to
his size. He reached out slowly,
cautiously, and finally nuzzled the
apple from her hand. As he ate it, we
both reached up slowly to pet him.
He snorted slightly as Brenda’s hand
came closer, but he didn’t move. It
took a few more slices of apple and
some more petting before he finally
seemed comfortable with her.
I stayed beside her a lot longer
than I had with Hannah because
Brenda made him nervous. And still,
when I moved to get the grain and
