more his breathing slowed. As I
reached his shoulder, he turned back
and nuzzled my pocket. “Sorry,
Buddy. There aren’t any more
apples. Besides, if I feed you any
more, you might end up getting sick.
Brenda wouldn’t like that.”
I brushed him some more and
continued talking to him. “Cashmere,
why do you like Hannah and me, but
no one else?” I asked.
He, of course, didn’t answer, but
as I continued to brush him, he leaned
his head to one side as if he was half
asleep, and his eyes drooped.
“Tired?” I asked.
His only response was to droop
his eyes a little more. When I
finished brushing him, I packed up to
leave. He grew quite excited.
