were only a block from our destination.
As I was climbing back into the pickup,
Donna stopped me. She pointed to an
old woman who was sobbing on the
street corner. “I think you should find
out what she needs.”
I approached the woman and asked
her, above the din of the traffic, if I
could help her. She told me she was
blind, and that she had asked a friend
for a ride to the bank. She said the
friend had hurried her out onto this
corner and left. She said she knew it
wasn’t the right corner, and she was
disoriented and frightened.
I asked her the name of the bank,
and when she told me, I looked around
and saw it in the middle of the block
that was diagonal from us. I told her if
