a spot, it still stunk. I was sure it would take quite a
while for the smell to disappear. I was just finishing
most of one wall when Grandma let out a satisfied, “Ah
ha!” She had found something.

      I ran over. “What is it?”
      “It’s just what I thought,” she answered. “Those
boys all hide right here after they do their nasty little
deed. Here are their footprints.”
      “But Grandma, that doesn’t tell who they are.”
      Her scowl told me she didn’t like me questioning
her discovery. “No,” she said, “but I know where to
look for them when they hit my house again. The
scamps probably hide here to watch me get mad. Then,
I’m sure, they hightail it down this alley to the police
chief’s house at the other end and feign innocence.”
      I looked at the prints. “So what are you going to
do?”
      She shrugged. “There’s got to be some way I can
catch them.” She seemed deep in thought for a
