fork and hit him as hard as I could,
swinging it into the side of his head.
This time it was he that stumbled.
The force of the blow turned his
whole body a couple of feet, and
when he landed, he went down on
one knee. He quickly came up onto
his feet and stood back to face me. I
didn’t even let him rear up to strike
again, but once more swung as hard
as I could, hitting him on his
shoulder.
He spun away from me, and as he
did, he kicked out with his back
hooves, narrowly missing my head.
He retreated to the other end of his
corral, and I moved to the gate. I
climbed it and just threw myself over
it, landing on the ground on the other
side.
