“Oh,” he said, “it wouldn’t be listed under


     my name, it would be listed under hers.  I


     always write the checks to her, and then she

     pays what she owes.  That teaches a child


     responsibility, you know.”


             “Okay,” Deanne asked, “what is your

     daughter’s name?”


             Deanne brought up the list of those owing


     tuition, but she did not find any name matching


     what the man had given her for his daughter.

     Deanne informed him of that.


             He seemed quite relieved.  “You know,”


     he laughed, “I was sure I had paid it, yet she

     told me I needed to send her a check for the


     whole amount because I hadn’t.  I am always


     very careful to make sure I keep up on the bills

     she says I owe.  I just couldn’t imagine that I


     had let something like tuition get clear to the
