that working on support committees and taking on

       the assignment of scoutmaster were far different.
       Usually, scoutmasters came up through the rough

       trenches, starting first as assistant scoutmaster to

       learn the ropes.
               But we were in a desperate situation, as the

       current scoutmaster was moving, thus triggering

       our search.  Word was those few that had already
       been scoutmasters and knew we were looking got

       caller ID and screened their calls in case we tried to

       put them into the assignment again.  And the

       current scoutmaster’s reason for leaving the
       community was a little sketchy, leading us to

       wonder if dealing with the eighteen boys had

       driven him to insanity.  No one else that would
       reasonably accept the assignment had nearly as

       many qualifications as Harry.  Besides, the final

       clincher was that Harry was a second-grade teacher

       and had summers free for camping.
               Though I was the one that was most

       concerned because I was also the one that had

       spent the most time camping with the boys, I
       finally had to admit that we were out of options.

       We talked to Harry and told him we had decided

       the assignment should be his.
               He was excited.  “After all these years, I
