I made my way back to the second part of my
meeting. When it ended, I was surprised to see the
boys playing basketball again. Actually, I wasn’t,
but I thought that Harry, after being tied up, had
surely learned his lesson. I was also sure he wasn’t
about to let them play any basketball that night.
Then I considered that I ought to check the scout
room again.
As I headed in that direction, I told myself
there was surely no way that Harry could be locked
up again. He was too smart to fall for something
like that twice. I leisurely wandered down there
until I heard the muffled calls for help and
quickened my pace.
I found Harry once again locked in the scout
closet, madder than a bull in a red pen. He was
throwing his entire weight against the door, but he
was skinny, and the chair under the doorknob
continued to hold. I opened the closet door to find
Harry so fired up he could have boiled water on his
balding head. “Did you know that stupid doorknob
is just the right height for a chair to block it shut? I
am either going to remove the knob completely or
move it higher so they can’t ever put a chair under
it and lock me in here again,” he hollered.
