having a girl to fix up in braids and bows and all.
Jacob and I always wanted one, but we got all
boys instead. I told Jacob it was his fault. The
man determines the gender, you know. But I
wouldn’t part with any of my boys for love nor
money.”

      Rachel saw John and David head off with
Joseph and Peter while Abraham and Isaac went
a different way. Jacob followed close behind
Anna and Rachel, with his mother holding to his
arm. He still had not said a word since they had
arrived.

      When they reached the great room, Rachel
gasped. She had thought it was beautiful when
she looked through the windows, but it was far
more so from the inside. It was the long room
