going to thrash him, but she didn’t. She just hauled him
back to the house and stuffed a couple of rotten
potatoes in his face. I’d say she had an interesting way
of discipline. Some days she’d thrash you, and some
days she would stuff rotten potatoes in your face.

      Granny said we had to get a hose and wash off the
house, scoop up the mess, and haul it back to the rotten
potato pile. We did that, but it didn’t take away the
smell, and she was forced to shut the window.

      We headed back over to the cellar. It was dug out
of the ground, and dirt was pushed out both sides with a
big dozer. Then timbers were laid to meet at a peak.
Heavy plastic was laid across these. The dirt was then
pushed back up on top of the plastic for insulation. Big
air vents went through this roof. The air vents were
simply long boxes about one foot by one foot and four
feet long down through the dirt and timbers.
