     I finished the run long before
       Allen, and then slowed my pace to
       run the last of it with him.  When
       he finished, I gave him a high-five
       as we headed to the locker room.
              “Good job, Allen,” I said.
              He smiled.  “Thanks.”
              By the time I got home, I was
       dead tired, but I didn’t have time to
       rest.  I had to study, get a little
       sleep, and then hurry to
       McDonald’s for my night cleaning
       shift.
              That was the hardest part of my
       day.  I started at ten o’clock, just as
       the evening shift was finishing up.
       By midnight, all the customers and
       most of the crew were gone, and
       by one o’clock, I was the only one
