He and I visited for a while using lots of gestures, and him using his
limited English and me using my almost non-existent Spanish. When I
could tell my colleagues were finishing their purchases, I returned to my
group. But just before we were ready to board our boat for the trip to the
next island, a reed boat pulled up (Figure 17).
It wasn’t a big boat, but it did have an upper deck. I marveled at
the weaving of the reeds on it, and I hoped I could pay to tour it.
