       started brushing a few knots out of it.

       I had just finished it and had moved


       to the other side when the little car

       with the three men pulled up.


               The man who had been driving

       the pickup stood there, beer in hand,


       with his mouth hanging open.  I just

       continued to brush Cashmere, and


       eventually he spoke.

               “What the heck did you do to that


       horse?”


               “What are you talking about?” I

       asked.


               “When they loaded him in

       California, they had 30 men on ropes,


       and he pulled them all around the

       horse yard.  He nearly killed some of


       them, and they almost had to give

       him a sedative and winch him into the
