the day, but I desperately needed the


       money, so I told her I would be fine.

               I hauled some more hay, having


       pleasant visits with Brenda as we

       drove.  I learned that she had two


       daughters and lived with one when

       she was in town.  She was a


       consultant for companies seeking

       government contracts, and she was


       usually gone all week and only home

       on weekends.  Sometimes she would


       be gone for two, three, or four week


       stretches at a time.

               “That is where you come in,” she


       told me.  “I will need someone to take

       care of my horses.  Just plan on doing


       it all of the time, and I will check on

       things whenever I get into town.”
