Never Ask What Else Can Go Wrong

Sometimes I ask, “What else can go
wrong?” My wife told me to never say
that phrase. She says it is like a bad
omen, and will just make something
worse happen. But I have a tendency
to say it when I feel I have reached
rock bottom. That was what happened
that evening. It all started out wrong,
as I arrived home, late, from work. It
was dress rehearsal night for the theatre
production my daughter and I were in,
and all the newspaper representatives
were going to be there.
I knew that if I hurried, we would
