anybody but yourself!”

I considered trying to ease the

tension by pretending I was Roger and

saying something funny like, “Hey, I’m

not as big of a liar as I used to be, now

that I’m on the Atkins Diet,” but

somehow, I didn’t think she was in the

mood to be teased. Besides, Roger

might be roughly the size of a gorilla,

so I again gently tried to tell her she

had the wrong number.

“Okay!” she yelled. “Just be that

way! You wait until I get hold of

you!” With that, she hung up, making

me feel like a real heel, and

appreciative of the fact that my name

wasn’t Roger.
