            Sam only glanced up at his coach then lowered his     eyes again.  He knew he didn’t really have much say in     the matter.  He would have to do what Coach Hamilton     wanted, like it or not.            “Well, then,” Paul continued, “I for one plan to be     here at seven-thirty to run with Sam and I’m going to be     working out on weights during lunch hour.  Who’s with     me?”            There was a bit of grumbling but as one boy after     another raised their hands, everyone else felt the     pressure to do it too.  Soon every hand except one was     in the air.            “But I’m not even sure I can get out of bed by     seven-thirty,” Jake complained.            “It will just make us all that much better,” Paul     said.  “Are you going to make it or do you want us to     stop by and pick you up?”            “I’ll be there,” Jake grumbled as he raised his     hand.            “Good,” Coach Hamilton said with a big grin on     his face. “We’ll see you all here at seven-thirty in the     morning.  We’ll do two miles this month, three miles in     December, and four starting in January.”            There were some audible groans at that.  As Sam     sat down by his teammates and looked up at Coach     Hamilton and his big grin, he wondered if the coach                                      57
