he wasn’t ready for this. He finally turned and headed home. He thought a lot as he walked, about his mother, about Emily, about his life. There seemed to be more to it than he could put into thought. It was almost as if he could feel his mother with him. Whenever he had done anything he didn’t even need to look to know she was there. He could sense it. This felt the same way. It was the same feeling he felt when he could tell she was in the stands at his baseball games without ever seeing her. It was as if he was at an event in his life that she had come to see. Or perhaps it was more than that. Maybe she was looking at his life and seeing he needed help and she had come to lend a hand. He had even felt as if his mother was there in the courtroom the day of the sentencing. Could his mother somehow have influenced the judge to give him this kind of sentence? He didn’t know quite what to think anymore but he knew he was feeling things he hadn’t ever felt before and yet at the same time they were strangely familiar. It wasn’t until he turned on to his own street that he realized he hadn’t even listened to his CD. He stopped and looked back again, even though he knew he couldn’t see the apartment.
