boys. They were at a critical point in their lives. I
could remember my own teenage years and the
good leaders I had. I could also think of a few that
left us on our own to make our way the best we
could. I hoped I could be the kind of leader these
boys needed and do for them what my good leaders
did for me.

It took the rest of the week to get the stamp of
approval from the scout committee and the parents,
but by the following Sunday, I was officially the
scoutmaster for our troop.
As I walked out of church that Sunday, I took
a deep breath. I knew I was taking on a big
assignment, but little did I know the impact it
would have on me and how much it would change
my life.
