     him.            “Well, you lock him in the barn and I’ll get a bottle     of milk ready.”            I put him in the newborn calf pen.  It was the one     place I thought he couldn’t get out of.            There were no newborn calves right then, so he had it     all to himself.  I had a hard time getting the twine off.     When I finally did, he turned and gave me a quick kick in     the shin as he darted off.            When I stepped into the house, Mom covered her     nose.            “You are not going around smelling like that.  You     change your clothes; the milk is nearly warm.”
