attitude about the competition.
When the class ended, I said,
“So, Ginny, why does winning
mean so much to you? And why
aren’t you practicing with
Alexander?”
Her voice quivered as she
answered. “Alex was my best
friend. He and I were dance
partners from the time we were in
first grade. We took the first three
semesters of dance here together
and hoped to win the ballroom
championship someday.”
“I’m sure he must be way
better than I am,” I said. “Why
doesn’t he come to class so the two
of you can practice?”
