“Ginny,” I said, “I talked to Dr.

Carlson yesterday. I told him you

deserved someone else as a

partner—someone you had a

chance to win with. He told me

you’d had a partner named

Alexander that was really good,

but he wouldn’t tell me any more.

Where’s Alexander, and why

aren’t you dancing with him?”

Ginny took a deep breath and

spoke quietly. “I’ll tell you after
